Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Depending on your location on the first day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park, you will be welcomed by our driver guide from Achieve Global Safaris who will brief you about the safari and then go for a short city tour in Kigali where you will visit the art centers, Kimironko market, Kigali genocide memorial center among others. After the city tour, you will start the journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park with a stopover at the former Kings Palace and another stopover for en-route lunch. After lunch, you will proceed to Nyungwe National Park and upon arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
After an early breakfast on the second day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park, you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a chimpanzee trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest in search of the chimpanzees which takes about 2 to 5 hours drive. During trekking you will be able to view other primates, plant and tree species, and birds among others and once the chimpanzees are found, you will be able to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat where you will be able to learn about their behaviors, watch them carry out their daily activities, take photos, record videos among others.
After the one hour with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the starting point where you will meet up with your driver guide and then return to the lodge for lunch where you will go for an adventurous canopy walk that starts from the Uwinka visitors center and is accessed from Igishigishi trail. The canopy walkway is 160 meters long and 70 meters high from the ground. During the canopy walk which takes about 2 hours, you will enjoy stunning aerial views of the forest, tree tops, view different birds, and primates among others. After the canopy walk, you will meet up with your driver guide and drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Departure to Kigali
On the last day of the 3 days of chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park, you will have breakfast at leisure, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey back to Kigali with en-route lunch and great views of the rolling hills, beautiful scenery, landscape, traditional homesteads. Upon arrival, you will go for a city tour in case you missed it on the first day and later your driver guide will drop you off at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of advice.
